Principal Investigator: Shashi S Nambisan Co-Principal Investigator: Srinivas S Pulugurtha Professional Staff Working: Kondala Rao Mantri, Venu Parimi Sponsor(s): California State Automobile Association Project Dates: Start Date: March, 2003 Completion Date: December, 2003 Short Description of the project The goal of the program is to improve pedestrian safety and walkability within the urban boundaries of the Las Vegas Metropolitan area. This is to be based on identifying high risk pedestrian incident target areas and populations, selecting and implementing safety engineering and Intelligent Transportation System based countermeasures, and analyzing the effectiveness of treatments for various target groups and causal factors. In May 2001, the TRC responded to a Request for Applications from the United States Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration for the Pedestrian Safety Engineering and Intelligent Transportation System-Based Countermeasures Program For Reducing Pedestrian Fatalities, Injuries Conflicts and other Surrogate Measures. In October 2001, the TRC was one of two recipients to be awarded the grant. A third team, the City of San Francisco, has been chosen after the October 2001 award to participate in the FHWA program. |
